4 Million Gay Men Are Beaten Up Every Year
Survey finds 13 million are banned from their family home
Four million gay men were victim of serious physical violence in 2014, according to a new survey.
PlanetRomeo released these shocking figures ahead of the launch of its Gay Happiness Index on the International Day Against Homophobia (17 March).
The gay dating network, in cooperation with the University of Mainz in Germany, questioned 115,000 gay men from 127 countries for the survey.
'When applying the survey results to the entire world population, the estimated outcome is shocking,' the company said in a statement.
Assuming 2,5% of all people are gay men and there are at least 175 million in the world, the survey also found that 13 million gay men are banned from their family home, 41 million want to escape their home country and 66 million are not out to their parents.
Another 22 million lost or were denied a job for being gay and 7 million are in heterosexual marriages.
