A lawyer representing a man accused of burglary, in order to get his client off the hook, tried the following very clever defense: “My client merely inserted his arm into the window and removed a few trifling articles. I fail to see how the whole individual should be punished for an offense committed by his arm only.”
The judge's reaction: “Very well, using your logic, I sentence the defendant’s arm to one year’s imprisonment. He can accompany it to prison or not as he chooses.”
