Justin Kripps, captain of Canada’s bobsled team, poked at the Russians’
homophobia by tweeting a photo (below) of the studly athletes last
month. Now, the Globe and Mail is reporting that Justin has arrived in
Sochi for the Olympic Games, only to find he cannot access the website
he had planned to unveil this week.
Justin tweeted a photo of the Russian message that comes on the screen when he tries to log on. Translated it reads:
This site has been blocked because of a breach of Russian legislation and could be because the website contains inappropriate material; or material that would be illegal if broadcast in Russia; or that it contains material that could be in breach of the rights of rights-holders or a third party.
Justin’s teammates and journalists in Sochi attempting to access the website got the same result.
There is no proof the censorship is related to the photo which went viral last week, but it high on the list of possibilities the web designers are looking into.
“That’s one of the things that we have discussed,” said Andrew Mellenger, owner of Mellenger Interactive, which launched Justin’s website.
Justine Yu, Mr. Kripps’s marketing and sponsorship assistant, said retribution for the underwear photo “is definitely a possibility in our minds.”
Here’s the photo in question:
