The Chicago National Veterans' Museum

The Chicago National Veterans' Museum has a most unusual exhibit.

Hanging from the ceiling 24 feet above the museum's atrium are more than 58,000 dog tags of service men and women who died in the Vietnam War. The 10- by 40-foot "sculpture" named Above & Beyond was designed by Ned Broderick and Richard Stein.

The metal dog tags are suspended one inch apart which form fine lines that allow them to move and chime with shifting air currents. A kiosk and a laser pointer help visitors to find the exact location of every dog tag which is imprinted with the name of the service man/woman (relative aor friend).

The United States of America and the allied nations around the world enjoy freedom today because of the thousands of U.S. and allied countries' military service men and women who gave of themselves unselfishly and sacrificed their very own life.
