At The Nursing Home

An Arab family, after migrating to the America, got into the usual "rat race". After a while, they felt the need to place their aged jad (Arabic for grandfather or grandpa), Abdullah, in a nursing home because with everyone out of the house the whole day, it was felt unsafe to leave him alone with no one to care for or help him with his needs, such as, properly taking his medications, going to the bathroom, and above all, in case of an emergency.

After contacting and inspecting several nursing homes, they finally decided on what they thought was the "best" one. A week later, the family came to visit the old grandfather.

"How do you like it here, Jad?" asked Saleh, the grandson.

"I love it! It's wonderful! Everyone here is so courteous and respectful," said Jad Abdullah.

"That's good to know, and we're so happy for you. For a while, we were worried that you would not fit in very well since you are the only Arab here."

"Oh, no! Let me tell you about how wonderfully they treat the residents here," replied Jad Abdullah with a big smile, "for example, there's a former orchestra conductor here who is 98 years old; his retired after his last concert 20 years ago, and everyone still calls him Maestro! There is also a judge in here who is 95 years old; he retired from law practice and court service 30 years ago, and everyone still calls him Your Honor! And then there's a dentist here who is 90 years old; he retired 35 ago from dental practice years, and everyone still calls him Doctor! And Me? As you all know, since Aisha, my wife, died 35 years ago, I have been alone and have not had any sex since, and yet they still call me the fucking Arab!" - Author Unknown
