It has been said that "money can't buy love". But tell that to the 32-year-old wealthy money-lender from Pimpri-Chinchwad, India who hoped to attract some female's attention by shelling out 1,400,000 British pounds (or about $2.3 million) on a shirt made of solid gold plus matching gold and diamond accessories of undisclosed amount.Datta Phuge, the 32-year-old Indian mogul, paid [more than] the proverbial arm and a leg to have the gold shirt made. It took a team of 15 goldsmiths who worked 16 hours a day for two full weeks to weave the gold threads and create the shirt.
Golden appeal: Wealthy Datta Phuge has spent £1,400,000 on the solid gold shirt with the hope to make him a 24-karat hit with women in India.
The gold shirt assembled on a fabric base of imported white velvet comes with several accessories to match the shirt's motif which include:
- a matching gold band for his diamond-studded watch;
- a matching intricately woven gold belt & ornate gold buckle;
- a matching gold collar;
- a matching pair of wrist bands/cuffs; as well as
- ruby and Swarovski crystal buttons;
- gold bracelets for each arm;
- gold rings for each finger;
- several gold rope chains for the neck; and
- a diamond-encrusted, white-gold pendant.
'I know I am not the best looking man in the world, but hopefully some woman would be dazzled by the shirt, which has been one of my dreams. It will also be an embellishment to my reputation as the Gold Man of Pimpri, Mr. Phuge told the Indian newspaper, The Prune Mirror.
