A Wise 6-Year Old

One day, a neighbor tried to make small talk with the 6-year old daughter of some friends who are die-hard liberal Democrats. He asked what the little one wants to be when she grows up. After a few seconds of thought, the little girl said she wants to be President some day. Her parents stood nearby smiling ear-to-ear. So he asked her further, "If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?"

She replied, "I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people." The parents' glowed with amazement and pride at their daughter's precocity and quick wit.

"Wow! what a worthy goal," he exclaimed. Then, he added, ". . .but did you know that you don't have to wait until you're President to do that? You can come over to my house, and you can mow my lawn, pull the weeds, and rake my yard, and I'll pay you $20. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store, where some homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $20 so he can use the money to buy food."

One could almost see the wheels turing inside the little one's head as she pondered the suggestion. Then she looked him straight in the eye and countered, "Why doesn't the homeless guy just go over to your house and do the work, and you can just pay him the $20?"

And he blurted, "Welcome to the Republican Party!"

Her parents still aren't speaking to my neighbor.
