Craigslist Underbelly

Craigslist has been in the news lately due to the recent capture of the “Craigslist Murder” Philip Markoff. With all that has been publicly released by law enforcement, it’s highly likely that Philip is the murder hands down. Unfortunately, this is not the first time a murder has occurred resulting from a Craigslist posting.

When posting an ad on Craigslist, the poster does not have to submit personal information. All you need is a valid email address and anyone can post an ad. I suspect and hope this practice will soon change and posters will be required to give up personal information for tracking purposes. And in light of recent activities resulting in a murder, I personally think Craigslist needs to begin collecting personal information, specially if the website is going to allow adult services and personal ads. Course, we already know that law enforcement is monitoring sites like this. Therefore, if you do not want information about you to become part of a data base, well, the best thing is to not join or post on sites like this.

If, on the other hand, you are going to post a personal ad, not only on Craigslist, but on any adult sites, I can only stress, be very careful. Philip Markoff and individuals like him are lurking within those personal sites. Never ever invite someone to your home or surrender your phone number unless you know the individual. Losing your life or jeopardizing your health is not worth it! There are better ways to satisfy your itch ... if you know what I mean!

  1. I posted and ad on Craigslist once. Will never do that again. Come to find out that the individual I meet off the site returned the following day and broke into my home. Like I said, never again!

  2. About a year ago I meet someone off Craigslist. Boy, was that a mistake! I was only looking for a one time encounter. For the next two months they stalked me and I had to bring the police into it which was a total embarrassment. Cured me!

  3. I meet a guy off of CL. Mistake is an understatement. The next day the asshole posted my phone number and address on the site, as well as posted information about me and what we did. What was worse, this experience cost me $$ because not only did I have to change my phone number, I had to move as well.

Tell you what, CL is one dangerous website I will never ever visit again.
